A-Walking: East Loftus to Slapewath via Saltburn

Our four walks on Sunday, 8th December, each took place in the East Cleveland region of the North York Moors. The A-Walk, B-Walk and C-Walk each started in East Loftus while the D-Walk started at Carlin How. All walks finished in Slapewath. After the walks we all had a Christmas meal in the carvery at the Fox and Hounds hostelry.

The A-Walk was led by Phil Barker (pictured Below). There were seven walkers in the group. Our route covered a distance of 14.3 miles and took in Skinningrove, Saltburn, Upleatham and Skelton.
Phil Barker - A-Walk leader

Leaving the A174 road in East Loftus in a north-easterly direction, we made our way to the Cleveland Way. We followed this in a westerly direction to Skinningrove and Saltburn. We stopped in Hazel Grove for a short lunch-stop. From the lunch-stop location we made our way to Upleatham and Skelton. We re-joined the Cleveland Way at Skelton Green and followed this in a south-westerly direction to our final destination in Slapewath.

We had a great day out and we were able to see some of the damage done to the coastal area by the recent high tides. Following the walk, we all enjoyed a very pleasant meal in the carvery at the Fox and Hounds Inn at Slapewath.
