Early-April Mid-Week Walking
(2011-04-04)

During the week beginning 4th April, Stockton Rambling Club will have TWO mid-week walks available. One is an evening walk and the other is a day walk.



The evening walk is on Wednesday, 6th April and will start at 7.00 pm from Hartburn Village Post Box - see the map below.

This walk will be not be longer than 6 miles.

Sunday Walking to Saltburn

On Sunday, 3rd April, the Stockton Rambling Club will have three walks in the Brotton area of the North York Moors. All walks will finish in Saltburn {NZ 665 213} - see the following map.

The A-walk will start at Grinkle Lane {NZ 730 125} and will take in Stibdale Farm, White Cross, Black Howe and part of the Cleveland Way.

The B-walk will commence at East Loftus {NZ 724 182} and will visit Loy Lane, Handale, Kilton Thorpe, Skelton and part of the Cleveland Way.

The C-walk will also set off from Grinkle Lane and will pass through Liverton, Kilton Thorpe, Brotton and Warsett Hill.

This is a Route 1 coach pick up (Billingham: 9.30 am, Stockton: 9.45 am and Acklam: 10.00 am).

SPECIAL EVENT: Navigation Skills

On Saturday, 2nd April, Stockton Rambling Club has a special event organised. This will take the form of a practical session on navigation skills using a map and compass. The event will offer participants the opportunity to brush-up on their skills at using a map and compass to lead part of a live walk.

Sunday Circular Walks from Chop Gate

On Sunday, 27th March, the Stockton Rambling Club will have three circular walks in the Bilsdale area of the North York Moors. All walks will start from and finish in the car park at Chop Gate {SE 558 993} - see the following map.

The A-walk will undertake a clockwise route and will take in Cock Howe, Carlton Moor, Cringle Moor, Cold Moor, Hasty Bank, Round Hill and Tripsdale.

The B-walk will also follow a clockwise route and will visit Raisdale, Hasty Bank, Medd Crag and William Beck Farm.

The C-walk will undertake an anticlockwise route and will pass through Medd Crag, Clay Bank, Garfitts and North Woods.

The C-Walk to Lealholm

Our three walks last Sunday (27th February) each took place on the North York Moors. The A and C walks both started at Brown Hill {NZ 671 116} while the B-walk set off from Castleton {NZ 686 080}. All walks finished in Lealholm {NZ762 075}.

Phil Barker led the C-Walk. There were 25 people in the group. We set off from our drop-off point on Smeathorns Road at about 10.30 am. From here we made our way via Castleton, Ainthorpe, Danby Lodge and Houlsyke as we navigated our route to Lealholm - arriving at about 3.59 pm.

We took our lunch-stop near Howe Farm {NZ 694 077} in Castleton and our tea-stop was located at the Moors Centre {NZ 716 083} at Danby Lodge. After the walking, refreshments were available at the Board Inn in Lealholm.
