A-Walking:Sheraton to Seaham Dene

Our three walks on Sunday, 15th December, each took place in the north-eastern coastal region of County Durham. The A-Walk started at Sheraton, the B-walk set off from Castle Eden Dene while the C-Walk commenced at Little Thorpe. All of the walks finished at Seaham Dene

The A-walk was led by Peter Cull (pictured below). There were six walkers in the group. Our route covered a distance of 15 miles and took in Monk Hesleden, Blackhall Colliery, Castle Eden Dene, Horden Dene, Hawthorn Dene, Nose's Point, Dawdon and Seaham Harbour.
Peter Cull - A-Walk leader

From our drop-off location at Sheraton, on the A19 road, we set off in a north-easterly direction in order to link up with the Durham Coast Path near Blackhall Rocks. We then followed this path in a north-westerly direction along the coast - stopping for a very pleasant lunch-break on the beach near Warren House Gill. Continuing our northerly coastal trek, we made our way to Nose's Point - where we took a short tea-stop. The final part of the walk took us along the seafront at Seaham and gave us some good views of the harbour. We finished the walk in the car park near Seaham Dene where we found a convenient cafe for our end-of-walk refreshments.

Many thanks to Peter for leading today's walk. The coastal scenary was terrific!

We re-joined the Cleveland Way at Skelton Green and followed this in a south-westerly direction to our final destination in Slapewath.

We had a great day out and we were able to see some of the damage done to the coastal area by the recent high tides. Following the walk, we all enjoyed a very pleasant meal in the carvery at the Fox and Hounds Inn at Slapewath.
