A-Walking: Pateley Bridge to Bolton Abbey
Our three walks on Sunday, 23rd June, each took place in the Nidderdale and Wharfedale areas of North Yorkshire. Both the A-Walk and the B-Walk started at Pateley Bridge while the C-Walk commenced at Dry Gill. All of the walks finished in Bolton Abbey.
The A-Walk was led by Phil Barker (pictured below) and covered a distance of 15.7 miles. There were five walkers in the group.
From the lunch-stop location, we continued on our south-westerly bearing until we reached High Skyreholme. Now changing to a south-easterly bearing, we crossed the valley and made our ascent of Simon's Side - the high spot of the walk. We continued our south-easterly trek until we reached the high-ground at Rom Shaw Head where we turned onto a south-westerly bearing. This took us over Hazelwood Moor to Bolton Park Farm and the River Wharfe at Wooden Bridge - where we joined the Dales Way.
We followed the route of the Dales Way in a southerly direction until we reached Waterfall Bridge. From here we had a pleasant walk into Bolton Abbey - and the refreshment stop at Bolton Bridge.
