Early-May Mid-Week Walking (2014-05-05)

During the week beginning 5th May, Stockton Rambling Club will have TWO mid-week walks available. One is an evening walk and the other is a day walk.
 


The evening walk is on Wednesday, 7th May and will start at 7.00 pm from opposite the Raby Arms in Hart Village {NZ 471 349} - see the map below.

Sunday Walking to Allendale Town

On Sunday, 4th May, the Stockton Rambling Club will have three walks in the East Allen Dale area of County Durham. All walks will finish in Allendale Town {NY 838 558} - see the following maps.

The A-walk will start at Allendale Common {NY 852 432} and will take in Killhope Law, Mutton Hall, Knock Shield, New Shield and Wooley.
 
The B-walk will also commence at Allendale Common and will visit Killhope Law, Carriers' Way, Burnfoot, Pry Hill and Knock Shield.
 
The C-walk will set off from Allenheads {NY 860 452} and will pass through Corn Mill, Knock Shield, Low Acton and Wooley.
 
This is a Route 3 coach pick-up (Acklam: 9.00 am, Stockton: 9.15 am and Billingham: 9.30 am).

A-Walking: Newgate Bank to Kirkbymoorside

Our three walks on Sunday, 6th April, each took place in the Bilsdale area of the North York Moors. The A-Walk started at Newgate Bank, the B-Walk set off from near Oscar Park Farm while the C-Walk commenced at Kirk Dale. All of the walks finished at Kirkbymoorside.
 
The A-Walk was led by Phil Barker - pictured below. There were seven walkers in the group. Our route covered a distance of 15.8 miles.

From our drop-off point at Newgate Bank our route took us to Rievaulx Bank, Potter House, Old Kiln, Cinderhill Wath, Stork House, Ankness, Mitchell Hagg Wath (lunch-stop), Otterhills, Grays, Gillamoor, Cockpitt Hall (tea-stop) and Kirkbymoorside.
 
Overall, we had a very pleasant day - the weather was reasonable and the scenery was terrific.

LAKES DAY: Sunday Walking to Glenridding

On Sunday, 13th April, the Stockton Rambling Club will have four walks in the Helvellyn area of the Lake District. All walks will finish in Glenridding {NY 386 171} - see the following map.

The A-walk will start at Patterdale {NY 395 159} and will take in Angle Tarn, High Street, Stoney Cove Pike and Hartsop. The length of this walk will be 13 miles.
 
The B-walk will also commence at Patterdale and will visit Place Fell, High Dodd, Martindale and Sandwick. The length of this walk will be 11 miles.
 
The C-walk will set off from Hartsop {NY 409 131} and will take in Brotherswater, Boredale Hause and Lanty's Tarn. The length of this walk will be 8 miles.
 
The D-walk will also set off from Hartsop and will take in Brotherswater, Dubhow, Beckstones and Side Farm. The length of this walk will be 5.5 miles.
 
This is a Route 2 coach pick-up and is an early start (Billingham: 8.30 am, Acklam: 8.45 am and Stockton: 9.00 am).
